The rotating rod stopped rotating after single use! What might be the problem?
Do you have to turn the timer on for it to heat up?
Is upgrade version much better than normal? Or is it just adding a timer?
I typically roast 19-20oz at a time using a heat gun and large stainless bowl. Can this roaster actually handle as much as it says? (26.45oz)

Strike out "Automatic"

I started roasting coffee years ago, progressing from the cowboy method of holding a moving pan over a cooktop, to a popcorn popper, a hot air professional/home roaster and now this. Like everything in life, your rewards come from diligent attention to preparation! Having a grounded experience with roasting coffee, I believe the important criteria is whether the roaster can get hot enough to roast and is there a fast cool off when roasting is done.So this is how I use this machine, applicable to using it in the basement or outside in 25F temperatures; the time taken is about the same. The most important thing is recognizing the first "pop" and very soon after, the second round of popping which consists of rapid pops, then turning the temperature dial to off while still having the blade moving the beans as the pan is still very hot and roasting continues for at least a minute or so thereafter (no burnt beans). Then quickly transferring the beans to a large cold metal pan for rapid cooling. The second round of "popping" is very important as within a space of less than 1 minute after it starts, you will rapidly move from a standard roast to full to French roast. When you turn that temperature dial off (but keep the blades moving) is a matter of experience with the type of bean you're using (country of origin, processing, decaf, etc.) and practice. The photos above are the first 3 batches I roasted tonight. My settings are based on setting the roaster to 240 degrees, about 8oz of beans, and setting the timer to 15mins; the first round of "popping" starts around 8mins, second round at about 10-11mins, and the pictures show three roasts at 20secs, 40secs, & 50secs after the start of the rapid popping in the second round. This roaster is definite keeper as it can roast a lot of beans in a very short time span, yielding wonderful results (enjoying decaf as I type). Wait at leas t an hour after the roast to start using beans. Beans stay fresh for the first week without the need for refrigeration. Enjoy!

The most balanced option.

It is still a design in progress, but it is so close to doing a flawless job that I give it 5 stars. The optimal load is 350 - 400 grams. When roasting this quantity, I found that it does a very regular job. With his load, It does an alternated rotation switching at intervals between clockwise to counterclockwise. The roast I get is perfect. It takes around 35 minutes to reach a medium-dark roast.Note 1: The very first time, I did not want to load the roaster using the minimum 300 grams advised in the manual (too much coffee for testing the product). So I loaded only 100 grams; it was an error; the minimum load is a must.Note 2: The rod looks unbalanced (one side is closer to the roasting base than the other side). I think It is part of the design and intended to optimize the scrambling of grains during the roasting evenly; do not fix it.

Easy to use but make sure to watch your roast!

The media could not be loaded. Ok so I just got this roaster, I will update as I go if I can! I’ve done three roasts so far all with PRIMOS Caturra beans found on Amazon as well. The machine has to be turned on, set at a temperature, AND the timer needs to be set for it to work. It will not heat if the timer is off. The temperature of the bed is very uneven from center to outside, between 5-20 degrees unfortunately. Each batch I used 200g of beans. I let the bed warm up for 10 minutes prior to putting my beans in. The first roast was at 200 C for a long time (this is when I realized the timer had to be on for them to roast). I would not trust the built in timer, definitely set your phone so you know a true roast time. They are very light but still have a good aroma. My second batch was at 240 C for 18 minutes when I smelled it burning.. I cooled them and they smell good now but some are burned. My third and most successful roast so far was at 220 C for 20 minutes. I have not brewed a cup yet, I want to wait a week for them to rest but I probably won’t be able to wait!

Quit working after 3 months

UPDATE: I really liked this roaster as you can see below. I bought it in September 2023. It's January 2024 and it has quit working. I used it once per week with fewer beans than the limit in the booklet. Obviously it is past the return time limit. $100 out the window! So disappointed. I can't afford to buy another one.First review: I have 2 other "fancier" roasters. I ordered this one because I can do a bit larger volume of beans at one time. I have done 4 roasts in 2 days. It works really well!Pros: Glass cover - you can see the beans change color and it assists with collecting chaffEasy to clean!Tumbles the beans well for an even roast on all beansCons: None yet.To know: The timer turns off the heat when it goes off! That's fine but you need to know that! You can turn the heat and timer off, remove the lid and let it tumble to start cooling the beans. The rotator arms don't stop until you turn off the machine.Do you need the timer? Probably not.I really hope this roaster holds up because I like it .

This item works great. I can no longer buy coffee from store. Roast some every 2 weeks.

Worth it!

We are renovating our home and kitchen, and investing in some good home appliances to make all of our home-made goods. We roast our coffee about 2x a week, this roaster has been absolutely worth every penny. You don't need a huge fancy roaster, unless you're a business of course. For a family, this is perfect. There is no learning curve other than finding how you like your coffee and adjusting temperature and time. I take two colanders and shake the beans outside to get the chaff off. Clean right away while still hot/warm, and it's a 5 minute cleanup.

Died a little over a year in

Still working great after 1 year. My only complaint would be that the dials are not that accurate. I'd love digital timer and heat setting.- UPDATE so, 1 year and a bit in, it died. The mixing rods simply won't turn anymore.
